I am proud and grateful to come from a long line of fearless Canadians. My grandfather, Joseph William Anson (Bill), at 17, lied about his age to fight in World War 1 because he was eager to help defend his family and country alongside his eldest brother Edward. After the war, he returned to his hometown of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, where he fell in love with a spirited Irish girl named Catherine Ledford. They were blessed with 11 children. Unfortunately, Bill died young due to gas exposure during the war, leaving Katie a widow with children ranging in age from 2 to 18. Tragically, two of Bill’s younger brothers, Kenneth and Lawrence Anson, also fought and died just 4 days apart in World War 2, leaving behind young widows, children, and family to mourn them forever.
“BEAVERS STICK TOGETHER” designs are created in solidarity with fellow Canadians. We love hockey, and like beavers, we are social, playful, resourceful, and fearlessly defend our own. The poppy featured in one of the designs, along with the text “Respect 11/11,” honors all who have served, both then and now. Because of their sacrifice and fearlessness, we enjoy our freedom and remain eternally grateful.
